Privacy policy
booksy is a reading app run by [legal entity name] (“we”). This page says what we collect, why, who sees it, and how to delete it. It is written to be read, not skimmed.
What we collect
- Account. Your email address (for sign-in codes and account notices), a handle, a display name, and an optional avatar photo, bio, and pronouns.
- Your reading. Books you shelve, ratings, reviews, comments, book-club membership and posts, reading and listening progress, highlights, and imports you upload (for example a Goodreads export).
- How you use the app. Basic product interaction such as which screens you open and when you finish a book, used to run features like your year in review. We do not use it for advertising.
- Sign in with Apple or Google. If you use them, we receive the identity the provider shares (an ID and, if you allow it, your email). We do not receive your password.
- Feedback and support messages you send us.
We do not collect your location, contacts, or advertising identifiers, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
Why we use it
- To run the service: sign you in, keep your shelves, show your reviews to the readers you choose, and sync between web and phone.
- To make features work that you turn on, such as reader suggestions or scores from readers with similar taste. These are off until you switch them on in settings.
- To keep the service safe: enforce the community rules, act on reports, and honour blocks.
- To answer you when you write to us.
Who can see what
- Other readers see your public profile, public shelves, reviews, and comments. A private account limits this to readers you approve. Private shelves are yours alone.
- Aggregate scores shown to other readers never expose a single hidden person's rating; private accounts are excluded from them.
- Service providers who process data for us and may not use it for their own purposes: [hosting provider, e.g. DigitalOcean (San Francisco region)] for servers and backups, Cloudflare for network delivery and file storage, and [email provider, e.g. Resend] for sign-in emails.
- Book metadata and covers come from Open Library and Google Books. When your device loads a cover image, your device contacts those services directly, as it would for any image on the web.
- We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
How long we keep it
For as long as your account exists. Encrypted backups are kept for [retention period] and then overwritten. Support messages are kept for [period].
Delete your account
Open Settings and choose Delete account, on the website or in the app. This removes your profile, shelves, ratings, reviews, comments, progress, and imports right away, and it revokes Sign in with Apple for booksy. Backups age out on the schedule above. If you would rather email us, write to [support email] from the address on your account.
Your choices
- Make your account private, make any shelf private, or block a reader, all from the app.
- Turn reader suggestions and taste-based scores on or off in settings.
- Ask us for a copy of your data or to correct it by emailing [support email].
Children
booksy is for people [13 / 16] and older. If you believe a younger child has an account, tell us and we will remove it.
Where data lives
Our servers are in [country/region]. If you use booksy from elsewhere, your data is processed there.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will say so in the app before it takes effect.
